NSA Celebrates 65 Years of Cryptologic Excellence

FORT MEADE, Md.  –

On November 4, 2017, the National Security Agency will celebrate 65 years of service to the Nation. Our history is shaped by our role in protecting the Nation and our allies from those who would do us harm and by our support to the warfighter on land, at sea, in the air, space, and cyberspace.

In 1952, then President Harry Truman issued a Department of Defense directive establishing the NSA. He understood the need to continue U.S. efforts to discover our adversaries' secrets, protect U.S. secrets, and outmaneuver those who would do us harm. Throughout its history, NSA's dedicated and courageous workforce developed and implemented new technologies and embraced innovation to maintain the cryptologic advantage over our adversaries.

Sixty-five years later, our leaders, policymakers, warfighters, law enforcement agencies, Intelligence Community partners, and allies rely on us to provide the critical information they need to defend our country, save lives, and advance U.S. goals and global alliances.

As a member of the Department of Defense and of the Intelligence Community, we are proud to lead the U.S. government in cryptology that encompasses our foreign signals intelligence and information assurance missions.
