New Exhibit Showcases Vital Role of Cryptology in the Korean Conflict

On 18 September 2000, at 6:00 p.m., Lt Gen Michael V. Hayden, USAF, Director, National Security Agency/Chief, Central Security Service will officiate at the unveiling of a new National Cryptologic Museum exhibit highlighting the vital role cryptology played in several crucial events during the Korean conflict. This new exhibit commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Korean War and also seeks to honor the brave soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who fought in "the land of the morning calm" to preserve freedom.

The display will focus on the important role signals intelligence (SIGINT) and communications security (COMSEC) played in the defense of the Pusan Perimeter and in helping the United States to prevail in the critical air campaign.

In addition to the unveiling of the display, a panel of both NSA historians and external academicians and historians will provide additional presentations on the important contributions made by signals intelligence to the United Nations forces during the Korean conflict.

Members of the media are invited to attend. Please notify the NSA Public and Media Affairs Office at the number above by 13 September 2000 if you plan to attend.
